Not possible to give an anwser on that as it depends how you respond to treatment.

Unfortunately there is no quick fix, meds often have to be tweaked up and down for some time, you will usually be on meds for 18 months - 2 years before coming off to see if you are in remission.

Sometimes Graves is too difficult to control and surgery or RAI will be the other options.

I have had both, surgery then some years later when Graves returned I had RAI as it was uncontrolable with Carb and block and replace which is Carb and Thyroxine.

I agree with what the guest has said. The tablets (carbimazole) will start to work in 3-4 weeks but your body will take up to 18 months to get back into harmony. The thyroid controls so much of your body functions.

Hi Charlie. Sorry you're not well. I lost a lot of weight too, and I was thin to start with. I've been on Carbimazole for three months now, and my thyroid levels are fine, but I haven't put any weight on. I look a bit like a scarecrow as my clothes are far too big. smile Like you I don't know whether to buy smaller clothes or wait a bit longer to see what happens.

I'm waiting to see if I can have radioactive iodine. If you feel like getting some new clothes I'd go ahead and buy them. It's a good excuse. If you need an excuse. smile

    Take care.

Hi, Like everyone else has said it all depends on the individual. I too have graves i was on carbimazole for approx 14months then had rai because my thyroid couldnt be controlled. I gained my pre illness weight approx 8 months after starting carbimazole but,you may take longer or be slower as it all depends on your metabolism.Take care Elaine. ps buy new clothes it was great whilst it lasted!!!
