hi

I have just been put on sertraline 50Mg for depression and am really struggling with sleep. it was an issue before and doesnt seem to have improved. I tried to get some nytol or something for it but you can't use them with anti depressants; does anyone know of anything that can be taken to help with sleep? I was given a weeks dose of tranquilisers from the doctor but I dont' want to get more due to side effects

thanks

I couldn't sleep when I first started taking Sertraline so I stopped taking them at night and now take them first thing in the morningl. This seems to have helped and I now sleep. My mood has improved considerably so persevere! Good luck

Before I started my sertraline I was hardly ever sleeping due to the depression my doctor also supplied me with some hypnotic pills zopiclone. However they are adictive and should be used in moderation I only use them every so often it helps to get yourself back into a sleeping pattern. If you over use them though they dont work as well and have bad side effects but they are good for geting into a routine and once the sertraline starts to help your mood you will notice a difference in your sleeping

was put on zopiclone for 2 weeks and doctor did not seem keen to prescribe anymore,

ive been a couple of nights free of these and my sleep pattern is crap,

i was sleeping fab on zopiclone but now find myself awake at all strange hours,

is there anything you can take on a longer term?

I really hated the side effects from zopiclone. If ur really struggling maybe try rescue remedy night. The old horlicks and a book till ur eyes get too heavy is the best for me. It will get better.Sertraline does work and ur sleep pattern will balance. i do shifts so have had to learn how to relearn how to get a good nights/days kip.Persivere youll get there i promise smile

Ask the doc for amitriptyline - you can take these long term and only a small dose 10-25 mg works to relax you at night so you can sleep - these can be taken with Sertraline

Hi, yes it is a problem when first on Sert. but it improves if you take them in the morning.

I got valium for for a couple of weeks, only took half a 5mg and it did seem to start a sleep pattern, but don't keep taking them after 2 weeks, I became (unwillingly ) addicted, and am now having help tapering off, however the Sert. has made my life so much better, so persevere - it gets lots better!
