Blood Pressure up and down

Posted , 2 users are following.

I have found this site very helpfull.....I am 55yrs old and have been on 5mg of Ramipril for the past 5 weeks taken at night. I also take a diuretic and a beta blocker called Nebivalol in the mornings. For the past 2 weeks my pressure has been 134/75 but for some reason has risen to 186/98. My doctor has told me to relax and to try not to keep worrying about the different reading because they will eventually settle down. Apparently the body takes a few months to balance out when Blood Pressure drugs ore introduced......Has anyone else had up and down pressures when taking meds?...........

    Hello Clive,

I was diagnosed with High BP in august of this year reading was 180/100. i was put on Ramipril and Atenelol. After a few weeks the reading come down to 150/88 which I was pleased about until yesterday the reading was 190/100 I was terrified. The doctor then increased Ramipril to 10mgs to be taken at night. Oh what a night I had, sweating, anxious, then this morning nauseated, runny nose, tickly cough that made me sick, and I feel so sickly at the moment. They tell you not to worry about reading, how can you not worry when things change so much. So you are not the only one.. Hope this helps, Margaret

Thanks for the reply Margaret. I have been on Raipril now for 8 weeks and I have now developed the chesty cough and I am also experiencing a stuffy runny nose. I have recently started to get breathless at night and also, like you, get anxiety coming on. I find sleep very hard to come by waking every hour. The night seems to take forever to pass but the funny thing is I never feel tired through the day. . . . .I guess it's onward and upwards.........................

Hello Clive,Sorry I havent looked at the site until today. I have just had BP checked this morning and its 190/100, which isnt surpising because I suffer with anxiety(im coming off Valium) I am so anxious at having to take more meds. The nurse said I should take Anti depressants to reduce anxiety but I really dont want to take a cocktail of drugs. How are you doing? Im taking 10mgs of Ramipril and 100mgs of Atenelol.

    Kind Regards Margaret

I had a 24hr blood pressure test last Thurs and Friday. Don't know what the results are due to my consultant taking his time, nevertheless, whenever I go to the docs my pressure is allot higher than when I first started taking Ramipril. As well as this drug I take Nabivalol, (Beta blocker), and a diuretic in the morning. My sleep is practically none existent being about 2 - 3 hours per night, the rest of the time is spent lying looking at the back of my eyelids and feeling hot especially the legs. Thank you for taking the time to talk with me. I find it very helpful and re-assuring.

Noticed since about October some heart rhythm abnormality (atrial flutter) and increased my atenolol beta blocker in December, but started to get lots of unpleasant effects. Then 29 Dec found my blood pressure up at 212/111. This really terrified me.

Saw GP and now on 5th day of 2.5 mg Ramilpril + 2.5mg Bisopropol (beta blocker). Anxiety levels down some but blood pressure varies. Best is 145/78 but after being a bit active it can be up at 189/97.

A bit headachy first day and dry mouth and tongue for 3 days and hint of a cough (zinc supplement is supposed to be good for that). But last couple of days feeling really nauseous and depressed. Sleeping never good but more difficult now.
