25 Years old and Ramipril

Posted , 1 user is following.

Hi there,

I'm a 25 year old white male. I've been prescribed Ramipril and have been taking them for just over a week now.

I don't know whether its coincidence because my heart could beat quite quickly before i started taking them but i do seem to get a very fast heartbeat for about 10 minutes here or there with this drug. ANyone else the same.

Also, the doctor said it is very unusual for such a young person to have high b/p - latest reading 164/95. I am overwight and don't exercise. Anyone else a similar age?

I've had blood tests, kidneys, liver, full blood count, cholesterol. thyroid, diabetes and they all came back clear.

Any thoughts?

    Hi there again,

Just been back to the doctors and my BP has lowered from 180/95 to 160/90 over a three week period of taking Ramipril 5mg.

Doc said not enough so he's put me on 10mg a day and wants to see me again in 3 weeks. He is also sending me for a Kidney blood test. Had one three weeks ago and everything was fine but apparently this medication can affect your kidneys.

    Any thoughts?

    Hi again

My thoughts would be to put your trust in your GP, he knows what he is doing and what he is prescribing.

Good luck and here is to a speedy recovery.

    To the 25 year old,

For goodness sake cut your food down and excercise, You will be a diabetic before you are much older.. Your health is the only one you have. Walk everyday, get the heart working until you are slightly breathless, Eat wholesome food, plenty of fruit and vegatables, no sugar and little if any salt, cut down on red meats eat oily fish. avoid fatty foods and most 'fast' foods

I've had high blood pressure for 20 years due to a kidney disease. Three years ago began jogging and walking twice a week without failure.

I have now lost nearly 2 stones in weight, i feel better in myself, my stamina and running has improved, my sex life is now wonderful having suffered some problems and my BP is always improved for around 24 hours following excercise.

My advice to anyone is excercise and lose some body fat. Cheque your Bmi if it's above or around 27 or 28 then you need to monitor, eat healthy, reduce portion sizes, cut out salt, crisps, salted nuts. Eat fresh foods rather than processed foods.

It really does work! Its hard work, but worth it. Who needs extra medication? they all have side effects.

Just had my fourth blood pressure check and its still not going down as fast as either i or the doctor thought.

154/90 now - better than it was but still not good enough.

He's now put me on 10mg Ramipril and 5mg Amlodapine as a combination!

Feel like a bloody junkie now!

    Hi,

I was prescribed Ramipril 5mg when I was diagnosed with Hp(212/111). My BP has come down to 175/102 but my GP is not satisfied with it and has increased the dosage to 7.5mg (5mg +2.5mg). I do have the same side effect of rapid heartbeat for 10-15 min after starting the medication. Chest pain too with breathing difficulties at times.

I do exercise and eat healthily. I suspect my working environment that has caused me this BP. I feel my boss runs a racially motivated bullying campaign against me. This makes me very angry and stressful. Trying to move to a new job and hope to come out of this BP mess!
