Pilonidal Sinus

I have had 9 operations in total in the last 18 months on my Pilonidal Sinus I am 19 years old and to make matters worse I woke up yesterday with horrendous pain in the same area once again. I had an MRI Scan to find out why my problem keeps occuring but nothing was found I am growing extremely frustrated due to the constant pain and hope something gets sorted out very soon. All my sympathy goes out to anyone who experiences a Pilonidal Sinus as it is the was pain I have ever experience. [/b]

If you havent already had it done, I would ask your doctor if you can see a plastic surgoen for a z plasty (This removes all tissue and surrounding tissue) and have all the hair permanemtly removed from that section as this can help stop it re-occurring.

It could possibly be nerve damage/nerve bundles caught up in scar tissue. This is what happened to me after three surgeries, many many MRIs, ultrasounds and xrays that showed nothing with extreme pain. Try going to a physio to see if they can help eleviate the pain otherwise go back to your surgeon and ask about it or see a pain specialist. I just had my whole scar (15cm long and down to the bone) cut out 6 weeks ago and the pain has definitely improved.

Hello! Ive had 3 surgeries and I know how frustrating it is. In my last one, the surgeon had to scrape until she reached the bone. It is better if the wound is allowed to heal from the inside out. If it is stiched, the probability for recurrence is much higher. Also, when the wound closes, you should start clipping the hairs with a hair clipper (like the ones barbers use).  I hope everything turns out well. To de stress you should drink tea(chamomille and lavander are good for calming, they are flowers).

Hi after the first op I was in hospital for 3 weeks this was with the dressing stichted to my bottom to keep it in place for 1 week then the wound was packed every day. this was difficult for me as I had a 3 month old baby who had to stay with my parents. The sinus came up while I was Pregnant and they would not operate until after i had delivered. As the operation was not sucsessful and again flared up while pregnant with my 2nd child the procedure had changed but my wound still had to be packed daily which meant the nurse coming every day. this was the process after each operation and the wound site got larger every time as the took more tissue each time they operated. Although I do only have 2 chidren, so this was not the cause of the flare-ups.  I am now 62 and still having trouble with the sinus but try to ignore it and get on with my life.
