Citalopram

Hi I was on Citalopram for nearly a year for depression and anxiety and it helped me a lot although it took time to work, I did not experience any side effects as I had when taking another type of antidepressant.

I also have been on citalopram for just over a month now, I don't know wether they are side effets but my appetite has been supressed and I have had bouts of waking during the night. I am on 10g but not sure if this is enough, although the depression has subsided, I'm not sure if I'm 'myself' yet. Has anyone else experienced the same?

I have been taking Citalopram for over 4 weeks now and my GP has just changed me to Sertraline. The Citalopram did help initially with the anxiety attacks, although not very much with the depression. But I couldn't cope with the side effects. I lost 11lbs in 2 weeks, slept 17 hours a day, constantly nauseas, headaches, dizzy and faint. I am really worried about changing the tablets in case the side effects are worse, but I guess I'll have to give it a go.

HANG ON IN THERE GUYS it will be the best thing you will do for yourself GOOD LUCK ALL..

I started on Citalopram and stuck with it for about 8-10 weeks (can't remember precisely the timescale), but couldn't get over the lack of energy when it was time to get up for work and the involuntary yawning. I had overcome the aggitation and uneasiness in my legs by taking lots of walks. I subsequently tried two different kinds of antidepressants when Citalopram seemed to stop working (I became low and couldn't get back up, so to speak) and coming off Citalopram was probably my biggest mistake (I really regret it). When it was working my brain started to function in a way I had never experienced before. I felt I could take on anything and my mouth and brain worked together for the first time ever. Sounds silly I know, but that's how it was for me. It was fantastic. I've been struggling ever since to get that mental clarity and have decided to go without medication to get to a baseline with agreement from my doctor. If you're on Citalopram and your side effects are minimal I would say stick with it until you're ready to come off.

I've been on Citalopram for a year and a half now. I started on 20mg and now I'm up to forty. It definetly helped with the anxiety and depression, especially at the beginning. I'm looking for an alternative now though, because I've been low for months, and I've never felt like I was getting better. I've never had any noticeable side effects with it, so I'll stick with it for now.

When i was first diagnosed with depression, i was started on citalopram 10mg in which i had so many side effects. Doctor increased it to 20mg. I was ok and the side effects subsided but it got to the stage where i didn't feel any different and started on the downwards spiral again. Changed to fluoxidine but made no difference and i was having trouble sleeping. Trazadone 100mg were prescribed which knocked me out completely. I looked and acted like a zombie! I was just sleeping all the time because i felt so drowsy. I am now on sertraline 150mg and although it's took 10months, i've finally found an anti depressant that works for me. I never thought i would be saying that but im slowly getting my life back on track.

    Hi

your very lucky not to have the side effects, i have been on citalopram for a few weeks and i honestly have struggled to stay on them, the first week i took them i would wake up in the middle of the night night sweating and shaking with pins and needles in my legs and i was having horrific dreams. So i swapped to taking them in the day which helped but now i have been on them for a while its so much better its just the tiredness that gets me most and the involuntary yawning!

I started on 10mg two weeks ago. For the first couple of days I felt ok, just with a slight spaced out feeling and faintness for a few minutes about an hour or two after taking the tablet. Over the next couple of days it got much worse. I felt very spaced out and out of control, I'd wake every few hours, my anxiety soared, I was shakey and restless and crying uncontrollably and felt very faint. As the week went on my anxiety decreased a little and I stopped feeling faint, but I still felt out of my head and my sleep was still very disturbed. I completely lost my appetite and had a dry mouth and felt like I couldn't do anything. By week two my appetite came back and my sleep patterns returned to normal, although I have been feeling sleepy and yawning a lot. I still feel a little fuzzy, though nothing like the first week. I am able to function relatively normally but my moods seem to be swinging between a sort of crazy druggy happy to very low. I'm finding it hard to concentrate at times, and seem unable to make decisions easily. I'm frequently walking in a room and forgetting why I wanted to be there! So far so good, though.
