I developed functional dyspepsia at the age of 15, when I was in my GCSE year at school. Originally it was thought I had a stomach ulcer because the symptoms were so similar, I had alot of blood tests, but nothing abnormal showed, so I was refered to the stomach specialist at my local hospital. He basically said there was nothing really they could do for it, but that it was just trial and error with different tablets, I personally found ranitidine work well for me. I take them for around two weeks before anything I know I will be worried about, or excited for. The condition affected my GCSE exams quite alot, and I had to have special concideration for them etc because at some points the pain was just unbearable and I had to leave the exams, but since this point. I've started sixth form, and I'm only studying practical subjects. I have found it immensly helpful to be in a more relaxed atmosphere. And I haven't had a problem with it for a while now =]
If there are any other people with functional dyspepsia reading this, I would be interested to know if anyone finds that they suffer with a really painful burning sensation in their stomach at the climax of an event, for example, a party that you've been looking forward to in a while, and got quite worked up about? I'm unsure if this is related to functional dyspepsia though. I also get the same problem when I drink alcohol - not that I drink much. but maybe just a glass or two can set it off. Any replies appreciated =]
